Ram Navami 14th April 2008

The day Ram Navami is celebrated as the Birth Day of Lord Rama. It falls on the 9th day of the bright fortnight of the solar month of Chaitra. (March-April) Lord Rama was one of the Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu; he incarnated as Lord Rama to destroy the Demon King Ravana and save the earth. Lord Rama took birth as Son to King of Ayodhya Shri Dashratha and his eldest Queen Kaushalya. We find a beautiful description of his birth in Ram Charit Manas; where Tulsidas tells about the most auspicious timings of his birth by saying-

“Naumi Tithi Madhumaas Punita Shukla Paksh Abhijit Nav Preeta
Madhya Divas ati Sheet Na Ghama Pavan Kaal Lok Vishrama”

Lord Rama was an embodiment of ideals and righteousness. He as a human being tried to set an example for a lay man to be a dutiful Son, caring husband, loving brother and impartial king. Lord Rama has set the highest standards of modesty and called “Maryada Purushottam Shri Rama”. The very name of ‘Rama’ is the greatest purifier of hearts; it wipes away the sins and inculcates peace and serenity in our hearts. It is said that Lord Rama was very fond of Bhakt Hanuman, because he offered total surrender to his lord’s wishes and gained a place near to Lord Rama.

In this Kaliyug too; if we wish to get rid of our sins and worldly desires; we should chant Ram-Naam. This simple “Naam- Jaap” is able to give Moksha or Salvation but our surrender should be pure and honest. This Year Ram-Navami falls on 14th of April 2008, we all should celebrate this day with prayers and celebrations and should try to follow his footsteps and practice righteousness in our lives too; to attain everlasting peace and prosperity.
